A Morocco tour brings together, within a few hundred kilometres, contrasts that elsewhere lie thousands apart: the bustle of the imperial cities Marrakech and Fes, the earthen fortresses along the Road of the Kasbahs, the deep Dades and Todra gorges, the golden dunes of the Sahara and the fresh breeze on the Atlantic coast at Essaouira. We are a local team and have been driving these roads with guests for years. Here we show you which route fits your time and your wishes.
Why a private Morocco tour with a driver?
Many travellers first think about renting a car or booking a group tour. Both are possible, but a private tour with a driver has clear advantages in Morocco:
- You set the pace. A photo stop on the Tizi n’Tichka pass, mint tea with a Berber family, an extra hour in the Todra Gorge: your driver stops whenever you like.
- Long drives become relaxed. From Marrakech to Merzouga it is about 550 kilometres, 9 to 10 hours of pure driving. We split it over two days with a night in the Dades Valley or Skoura.
- No worries about fake guides. In the medinas of Marrakech and Fes, strangers often offer to show you the way and then ask for money. With us you know who is with you, and city tours are led by licensed local guides.
- Safe in the desert and mountains. Official travel advice recommends doing off-road desert trips and mountain treks with registered local guides. That is our everyday work.
- Personal instead of mass tourism. You travel only with your family, partner or friends. No waiting for other groups, no fixed bus.
How long should a Morocco tour be?
The honest answer: as long as you have. Morocco is bigger than many people think. As a rough guide:
| Length | What you see | For whom? |
|---|---|---|
| 3 to 4 days | Marrakech, Ait Ben Haddou, Dades, Sahara at Merzouga or Chegaga | City break with a desert trip |
| 6 to 8 days | Desert, kasbahs, gorges or imperial cities plus desert | First trip to Morocco |
| 11 days | Imperial cities, Sahara, Draa Valley, Anti-Atlas or coast | See a lot and still relax |
| 15 to 16 days | Almost the whole country: Rabat, Fes, Merzouga, Chegaga, Tafraout, Essaouira | The grand Morocco tour |
The best routes at a glance
3 days Marrakech → Merzouga → Marrakech
The compact desert tour from Marrakech. On day one you cross the High Atlas to the UNESCO kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou, continue through Ouarzazate, the Skoura oasis and the Valley of Roses into the Dades Gorge. Day two brings the Todra Gorge, the Ziz Valley and in the afternoon the camel ride into the sunset with a night in a desert camp at Merzouga. Day three goes back via Alnif, Agdz and the Tichka pass. If you want to continue to Fes afterwards, choose the Marrakech → Merzouga → Fes version.
4 days Marrakech → Agdz → Chegaga
For anyone looking for a quieter desert. The dunes of Erg Chegaga lie beyond M’Hamid and can only be reached by 4x4 along about 60 kilometres of track. You are often almost alone with the starry sky. On the way: the palm-filled Draa Valley, Agdz and the old Koranic library of Tamegroute.
6 and 8 days: desert, kasbahs and imperial cities
The 6-day tour from Marrakech takes its time: Skoura, two nights in Merzouga with a full day around Erg Chebbi, then back via Agdz. The 8-day route combines the imperial cities of Rabat, Meknes and Fes with the cedar forests of the Middle Atlas, the desert and the Dades Valley.
11 days from Casablanca or Marrakech
From Casablanca the trip begins at the Hassan II Mosque, goes via Rabat, Meknes and Fes into the Sahara and on via Todra, Ouarzazate and Ait Ben Haddou to Marrakech. The version from Marrakech heads into the deep south: Zagora, Chegaga, the pink granite rocks of Tafraout, the walls of Taroudant and finally two days in Essaouira on the Atlantic.
15 and 16 days: the grand Morocco tour
Here you see almost everything: imperial cities, Midelt, Merzouga, the gorges, Ait Ben Haddou, Taroudant, the Ammeln Valley near Tafraout and Essaouira. The 16-day trip from Casablanca also crosses the dry Lake Iriki by 4x4 from Chegaga to Foum Zguid. A real adventure.

Plan my own routeStart in Marrakech or Casablanca?
Marrakech is the best starting point if you want to reach the desert and the Atlas quickly. Many direct flights land here. Casablanca suits you better if you want to see the imperial cities of Rabat, Meknes and Fes. Our tip: arrive in Casablanca, fly home from Marrakech. That way you never drive the same road twice.
How much does a Morocco tour cost?
The price of a private Morocco tour depends on four things:
- Group size: the vehicle and driver cost the same whether two or six people travel. So the price per person drops with every extra traveller.
- Accommodation: traditional hotels, riads and kasbahs or upscale places.
- Season: Easter, the autumn holidays and Christmas are in high demand.
- Extras: hot air balloon, cooking class, a 4x4 day in the desert.
Our tours usually include all transport with a driver, nights with breakfast and dinner, and entrance fees. You pay for drinks and lunch locally. We agree the exact price with you personally on WhatsApp. Honest, with no hidden costs.
Our planning tips
- Do not pack too much into too few days. Better one more night in the desert than one more stop on the list.
- At least one night in a desert camp. For most guests, sunrise over the dunes is the best moment of the whole trip.
- Think about the season. Spring and autumn are ideal. More in our article Best time to visit Morocco.
- Read before you go: our Morocco travel tips on safety, money and clothing and everything about the night in a desert camp at Merzouga.
